Why Geography? The course has two main strands. The first is learning about and understanding a range of geographical features and landforms, the second investigates the interaction between people and the environment. In Year 12, students will study Tectonic Processes and Hazards; Coastal Landscapes and Change; Globalisation and Regenerating Places. Towards the end of the year, students will identify and research their own individual piece of coursework which they will write up and evaluate which is contributes 20% towards the final grade. During Year 13, students will study the Water Cycle and Water Insecurity; the Carbon Cycle and Energy Security; Climate Change; Superpowers and Migration, Identity and Sovereignty. |

What do I need to know? Exam board: We study Edexcel Geography. Entry Requirements: As well as the standard Sixth Form requirements, you must also have grade 5 in GCSE Geography. It is desirable to have grade 6 in GCSE Geography. Key Content: Students will gain experience of a wide range of geographical skills with a significant application of ICT and statistical skills. The course has strong links to business studies, economics, politics and science. In order to provide students with the skills needed for them to identify their own individual coursework focus and collect their data effectively, there will be a number of day trips during years 12 and 13. In addition to these, there will be a combined year 12 and year 13 residential field trip to Iceland every 2 years to cover topics associated with tectonics, energy, coasts and identity. |

Assessment
Paper 1 – Physical Geography (30%)
Paper 2 – Human Geography (30%)
Paper 3 – Synoptic investigation (20%)
Coursework (20%)
You will be examined on topics studied in Year 12 as well as those from Year 13. You will also sit a third exam which provides you with the chance to analyse a range of data and make and justify some decisions based on a real world scenario; providing you with some useful skills for both university and employment.

There will be 4 compulsory field trips with a voluntary contribution of approximately £75 - £100 in total spread across Year 12 and 13.
Field trip to Iceland approximately £880 (optional but highly recommended).
Travel to and from the fieldwork location decided by individual students in Year 12. Most are locally-based projects but can be further afield should the student wish.
