Learning from Home

From Monday, 15th June will revert back to our normal timetable, but all done virtually. That means that Year 12 will have 5 lessons a week in each subject. Students can expect 4 of the 5 lessons to be 'taught' by the teacher in live lessons and one of the lessons to be given over to an individual work e.g. a piece of research, perhaps a timed essay, perhaps a series of questions etc. The teacher will be present in that 5th lesson but will not necessarily cover any new material with you.

There is no academic enrichment, assemblies, or obviously Wednesday afternoon enrichment!

Students can expect up to 3 hours on homework a week per subject; obviously in school students would normally expect 5 hours per subject per week, however teachers appreciate that the learning and understanding can take longer currently and so we are starting with less homework.

Lessons will be slightly shorter, 5 to 10 minutes shorter. Again, we appreciate that learning in this way takes a bit of time to consolidate and can be quite intense. Reducing the time of each lesson is designed to allow students a chance to take a break before moving into the next lesson.

The video facility on MS Teams will be switched on from Monday onwards.

It is up to you if you use the video or not, but can we ask you to be mindful of things being appropriate for a school environment. For example, please be dressed appropriately, and make sure the backdrop of the room etc isn't going to offend. As always, be kind in your approach and comments. Keep phones out of the way during lessons and avoid distractions.

Registering each morning remains as it has been. All students should check in with their tutor preferably before 9 a.m. but definitely by 10 a.m.

Our expectation is that you will be in every lesson and regular commitments such as a shift at Tesco's will need to be rearranged if they now clash with a lesson. With the change in national expectations for Year 12 this should not be an issue with an employer. If it is, then just let us know and we will speak with the employer.

The use of MS Teams is essential. If you are struggling with aspects of MS Teams then we have made a series of videos for you to be able to view here. Hopefully these will help.

Work hard, ask questions, get involved and speak to us if you are struggling in any way.
