Why Further Maths?
Further Maths extends the topics studied in A Level Maths. Many of the topics act as a stepping stone to ideas which will be explored in the first year of a mathematical degree course.
This is a good A-level to study for students wanting to continue Maths at university or for students that are particularly gifted at Maths and have a real interest in the subject.
What do I need to know?
Exam Board: We study Edexcel Further Maths.
Entry Requirements: As well as the standard Sixth Form requirements, you must also have GCSE grade 8 or above in Maths. Students choosing Further Maths must also study A-Level Maths, which is taught alongside this subject.
Key Content: The course covers pure content (including algebra, calculus, sequences, complex numbers) and applied content (mechanics, statistics and decision mathematics).
What is the work like?
As an example of the kind of work that you will cover during the A-Level course, please find to the right the pre-A-Level material that we asked Year 11 to complete before starting their Further Maths course with us in September 2020.
